                         LAUNCH ON SCHEDULE

This morning's launch of a Ground-based Interceptor (GBI) from
Vandenberg AFB appears to be on schedule.

Liftoff is probably scheduled to occur at, or shortly after, the start
of the 08:00-12:00 PST launch window. However, technical problems,
weather, and other issues could cause the launch to happen at any time
during that time frame.

The launch is part of a missile defense test. Rather than trying to
launch one missile at one launch site, the event involves two missiles
(the target and the interceptor) at two different launch sites (the
central Pacific and Vandenberg). That means the boosters, payloads,
ranges, and so on at both locations must be ready for the $100
million test to proceed.
