                    UNUSUAL SUNRISES AND SUNSETS

Yesterday SpaceWeather News (www.spaceweather.com) reported that
observers in the U.S. and Europe were seeing unusually colorful
sunrises and sunsets because of a recent volcanic eruption in Alaska.

Last night I looked outside around sunset and noticed the western sky
was unusually bright and featured what appeared to be milky high
altitude clouds. As dusk progressed the sky displayed unusual
coloration. The unusual sunset was almost certainly due to the
phenomenon reported by SpaceWeather News.

It may be worthwhile to watch the sky for the next few days for unusual
sunrises and sunsets. Be sure to have a tripod-mounted digital camera
ready to record what you see. Best results will probably be had with a
wide angle lens or a zoom lens set for the widest possible field of
view.
