                        DELTA ROCKET LAUNCHED

Thursday evening's scheduled launch of a Delta II rocket from
Vandenberg AFB occurred at 19:34 PDT. The rocket lifted-off at the end
of 13-minute launch and successfully placed Italy's COSMO-1 radar
imaging satellite into a polar orbit.

Thus far, the Editor has received relatively few launch observations.
This is probably due to the fact that the Sun was still above the
horizon at liftoff for observers on the West Coast.

However, as predicted in this newsletter, a glowing cloud was seen
after sunset when rocket exhaust at high altitudes was illuminated by
the Sun.
