[Launch Alert] Launch Postponed

Last night's launch from Vandenberg AFB was called off literally at the last
minute when a weather balloon indicated unacceptable upper level winds.
Another launch opportunity occurs tonight at 6:31 p.m., but the forecast
called for a 60% probability of unacceptable weather. The weather this time
of year is variable and can turnaround in just a matter of hours.

If tonight's attempt is cancelled, other launch opportunities occur at 6:31
p.m. for the next several days.

If you are in the process of becoming a launch watcher, the term "upper
level winds" is one you will learn to dread. Delta II launches during the
cooler half of the year are often cancelled due to upper level winds. The
scrub often doesn't occur until late in the countdown when the last balloon
goes up.
