                    MISSILE DEFENSE TEST SCHEDULED
                     Vandenberg AFB News Release
                            2006 August 28

Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. – The Missile Defense Agency is set
to conduct a test of the ground-based interceptor system here
Thursday morning.

During the evaluation, an interceptor launched from the Ronald W.
Reagan Missile Defense Site here will be tested against a target
missile, launched from Alaska’s Kodiak Island.

The main objective of Thursday's test will be to see if the optical
sensors on the "kill vehicle" aboard the interceptor work as designed,
said Lt. Gen. Henry Obering, the Pentagon’s missile defense chief.

                           LAUNCH DETAILS

Thursday's launch is part of a weapon system test. This means that an
exact launch time won't be available for a day or two. Also, there
will probably not be any countdown audio or video feeds.

                        E-MAIL CONSIDERATIONS

In the days leading up to a launch, I'm often very busy and have a
hard time answering questions via e-mail. Many questions about launch
viewing and photography can be answered by reading the following
pages:

   www.spacearchive.info/vafbview.htm

   www.spacearchive.info/vafbphoto.htm

Following a launch, I receive anywhere from a handful to literally
hundreds of e-mails. However, just when I may be under a deadline and
trying to send an important e-mail, I can be flooded with incoming
launch observations and photos and my e-mail access interrupted.

To prevent any problems, please you ask me first before e-mailing any
photos, video, or other attachments.
