Mischievous, perhaps, but surely most are not malicious.

Tell us you didn't enjoy putting a spot on a building, or tower, or 
cloud that is miles away - with no harm intended - when you had your 
first handheld laser in your hand.  When you illuminated the first tree 
were you intending to blind the sleeping bird in it?
