You might indeed! haha... It does look like PSK modulation but I
guess it's just sending 0's and 1's while unconscious. They're
describing it as a phase reversal like PSK I think. When awake
and blinking normally, they describe the modulation as "more noisy"
and difficult to analyze. Who knows what they are saying to each
other (the bugs) if they can actually process the signals at those
rates - 586 KHz subcarrier and the sidebands at 403 and 769 Khz.
But maybe it's all just a by-product of the light producing organs
and not actually used for communication by the bugs. (other than
the slow blinks which are used to attract a mate)

Now, if I could just connect some wires to one of these babies and
get it to fly above my treeline, maybe I could do some optical
communication via PSK-31.
