Bottom line. I've buried under at work right now, with very little time
for homebrew projects or experimentation. For two seasons now, I've
plotted and planned an attempt at VUCC with another local ham on both 10
GHz and Laser (or LED).
We've done a lot of the "homework" involved, including plotting tons of
tropo maps, and visiting three of the four grids required for the
attempt. Suitable
sites have been found in all of them. We also have 10 GHz units and
dishes ready to go.
Sitting on the workbench are a variety of laser based projects that
haven't gotten off the ground. Ramsey kits, frensel lenses from Staples,
and other
parts. A 2" piece of PVC with a homebrew fine tuning-screw adjustment
sits nearby, unfinished.
Basically, I'm time starved, but still hunger to achieve VUCC on these
bands before my partner loses interest. So here is my proposition:
1.) I'm willing to pay someone to build a matched pair of laser or LED
units capable of communicating over the required 180 mile path necessary
to cover five grids. I'm looking for turn-key r, ready to go units that
can be mounted on heavy duty photographers tripods and used immediately.
2.) Unit can be new or used, as long as it works, and can reach the
required distances reliably. We do understand that there is a steep learning
curve, especially has it applies to aiming, but hope to accomplish our
goal over a period of no more than three weekends.
We'll operate from a grid intersection, and get the four required grids
quickly, then drive to the 5th grid and make the more detailed attempt
from there. Once
one of us is successful, we'll switch places and do it all over again.
Please let me know (off list) if you're willing to build or sell two
such units to us, and your asking price. We also need to know your time
frame. We want to try
our first attempt in July during our mutual vacations.
