Gordon, G0EWN, and I have worked 42km in full mid-day sunlight using
baseband AM signals. The Tx were based on a 3 watt Luxeon LED with an A4
size Fresnel lense. The Rx were based on a silicon photodiode fitted
with a narrow bandpass filter and an A4 size Fresnel. During the
contact, the ambient light was so bright that the distant Tx could not
be seen even through 7x50 binos. We believe that much longer DX is possible.
