Hi Robert!,

I just started myself. Take a look at KA7OEI, he has been a big help to me plus a really nice guy. I started ot with the K3PGP laser site and went from there. I really did not understant the optics involved at all, I sent a message to Clint, KA7OEI and he sent me a rather lengthy email that summed it all up. I have decided to change my entire system now from the K3PGP desing to the one Clint uses. My optics are looking better now too. I applied his suggestions andhad immediate results. I am sure you will find this entertaining!.

My first design was a K3PGP modulator and my reciever was a silicon solar cell feeding a radio shack battery powered amp. It took a lot of audio drive to make it play but it worked! with no optics at all I send music (very poor fidelity) over 100' with my 5mw laser.

I quickly realized that the laser was a problem to aim and keep in target at great distances. I did further research and found that nearly everyone has switched to high power LED devices. The LED I am using pulls 700ma @4.2 vdc. IT is a LUXEON device I bought on EBAY for a few $$$. Listen to Clint and the guys from down under they know their stuff.

I am going to have my new system operational soon and will post pics on my website:

Good luck, dont be afraid to ask questions.... start off simple and go from there... it is a lot more fun that way!

73!

Have you ever noticed that when you are looking for something,
it is always found in the last place you look?

Hello all,
This is VE7CPO Bob, robert.b at telus.net  on Vancouver Island.  As the subject line indicates just starting to understand laser communications and experiments.  If anyone can think back how they started, then  share their knowledge to me in small steps I believe I can enter this laser world.   Articles,  publications, bread boarding, anything  you identify   will be read and examined .
Thank you in advance.
Cheers,
Bob.
