  I believe I understand the modulation scheme and I agree that, for a 
symmetrical signal like a tone, you should see no LED intensity change. 
  For complex audio like voice, though, there is no guarantee of 
symmetery about zero and, therefore, the average LED output will not be 
constant.  Or do I misunderstand?
