Chris,

I'm not sure where youre getting some of this... That large mirror that Yves has (the 22cm) is not a LIDAR optic. In other words it is not a precision 1/4 wave optic costing thousands, it is in fact a bathroom vanity mirror. Also known as a cosmetic mirror, the kind women use when putting on makeup - sometimes called a makeup mirror. I think it is made of a think plastic. It is similar to the one i have except mine is about 30cn. I got mine from an old advertizing display at no cost. If you were to go out and buy one it might cost $10 or so. 
You go on to say, "why would anyone even consider this when they could buy a fresnel" So you hate mirrors now too? and lasers? Give us a fricken break. 

Another thing, Yves is not suggesting the use of high powered lasers in a kit. Also a 5mw laser diode is pretty much eye-safe without any extra optics. Spread out even a little bit it becomes harmless. (unless you wish to stare into it) The most powerfull LED we would be interested in is in the 100ma class. I was going to ask you which one you would reccomend but i see you already have. Thanks for that.
