Thanks for the "excellent" folks, but sorry about the "first", which was only a bit of fun. I did find out about the Finnish sub carrier trials and knew that some mixing from amateur bands had taken place in the US, but I was not aware that a complete, finished design was out there that used the same mixer on both transmit and receive. Some of the dates quoted were way earlier than I had researched. Oh well. My excuse is that when I sent the drawings in to Tim, I did not realise they were going to be presented with all my comments on!

I must say that subcarrier communications seem to hold up well against optical QRM from lights etc, and FM removes much of the flutter from scintillation.

All this operates in the UK where it is not easy to find a 100km path due to the atmospheric conditions we live in, and no high mountains here, so we go for operator convenience and immediate microphone to loudspeaker type signals.

There is a small group in the UK getting some boards made, but I do not know if they want to get into mass production. Come on you faint hearts, it is not that difficult, I made the first prototype on a solderless breadboard!

Now somebody tell me you made a power LED receive and transmit in the same box with the same optic and work over 65km, and really spoil my day!

Regards all
