Hi again Stuart,

My thanks for your response and for the technical details, most interesting. I must say I like the "transverter" approach very much.

I was also pleased you quoted the RS part number for the "Golden Dragon" red L.E.D. a couple of which I shall look into ordering shortly.

I also received an e-mail from Barry (G8AGN) detailing his recent experiments, again some very interesting technical detail.

Experiments here at M0AYF have been mostly confined to short distances (a few hundred Mtrs) using a laser pointer diode and a PICAXE micro-controller to form a CW beacon. Reception was achieved with a photo diode in a PGP circuit. Also had some success with reflected signals via trees etc. This was quite a few years ago, we now have Robin Hood airport on the doorstep so skyward pointing lasers is not such a good idea any more Hi.

However powerful LED's would seem an ideal solution for this QTH while the existing laser equipment may still find service for short range point-to-point demonstrations.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond and I look forward to reading your Rad-Com article.

73,s and I wish you continued success with your optical comms. experiments.

Des (M0AYF)
