More interesting and yet even more interesting. Please sign me up for the
first round of kits.

If there is still time to suggest an input to the project, I would like to
point out an annoying shortcoming of the Ramsey transmitter's Tone mode --
it switches between the tone and voice modes, so if one wanted to use it for
Morse Code, or perhaps another digital mode, the process would be awkward.
As I said, if there is time still time to consider changes, it would be nice
to consider how an optical transmitter could be used for CW and digital
modes ( PSK , MFSK, ??? ).

I got this wild idea the other day of an electronics and communication
project for a group of Scouts ( and/or other youth ) to build line of sight
equipment (optical or SHF if they are licensed and so inclined) and then
gather at a local rest area with a broad view, which I think has line of
sight to six grid squares. I would then get several teams out in the field
at various distances, so each youth would have the opportunity to attempt
communication with each using the constructed equipment. I had in mind an
AM modulator with power LED, but it sounds like the PIC PWM may be another
option. I wish you much success.

My Aerospace Engineering degree is from U of A. I enjoyed the two years I
spent there, even more since USAF paid for it. I bet the weather in Tucson
is better than Wichita these days.
