OK, this would certainly explain some of what I see, I did notice that the
rapid dropping of power with no real on time corrected it's self when I lightly
tapped the head. Then at that point it would run about a minute without
dropping in power, which is what I had expected.

I had not seen the term "wing-pumping" before, I looked it up, but did not
get a clear understanding of the meaning. In some information it appeared
that they used it to describe a position of the pump diode with respect to
the crystal. In others it appeared to describe pumping of the crystal off
freq, which is what your explanation appears to mean.  Thanks for the
info.
