WOLF-GUI is basically a previously well chosen single frequency program.
I am not a protocol specialist but it seems to me this program is very
complex.
I did tests at 20 Hz 75 Hz and 175 Hz normal speed and quarter speed.
I used first two PC in a dark room with a PGP RX and a small optical TX with
a red LED that light can be reduced by a potentiometer until to be
absolutely not viewable.
The first step mandatory to use WOLF GUI is to calibrate the sound cards.
For local test the best way I found is to send a 2500 Hz tune each PC from
external loud speaker and measure it each PC via the microphones.(This 2500 Hz
tune can be called the "known reference frequency").
For laser DX, a FM radio link or a phone link can be used previously for the
calibration.
WOLF can gives a very good reading of the "real" received frequency tune one
each PC.
Theses frequencies must respectively be entered in the RX sample rate
calibration window on each PC (E.g. 2499.52 Hz and 2501.2 Hz can be called the
"displayed audio frequencies").
The first tests showed the program is so sensitive that it is impossible to
find the sensitivity limits if the PCs are on the same main lines because
signals are exchanged by the common grown and cables radiation, even if the PCs
are to more than 10 m from one to the other.
A portable PC and a battery powered LED TX is mandatory to have a good
isolation.
A good level indication is the number of lines before the first message
decoding.
It is possible to decode messages that give absolutely no picture in the
waterfall after 10 mn.
It is possible to decode message after 30 mn or more.
At this level the signal is so small that its real level escapes the
calculations.
The best sensitivity limit has been found at quarter speed 175 Hz.
In 2006 we succeed a 40 Km cloud bounce laser QSO with only 4 to 5 lines
before to decode the message at normal speed 175 Hz.
You suggest a multi channels system on separate frequencies.
You can write to Wolf sn at SCGROUP.COM to ask him about all his program
details.
He always answers my mails very kindly with lot of information.
