Hi Mike,
The designer of the OPT-101 add on was me. I did it without ever
seeing a Ramsey kit (physically), and submitted it here for comment.
At the time, there was little interest in it, but several asked for
the file, a pdf which might or might not have my callsign on it.
XE2AT built and installed the modification on his Ramsey's however,
and noted it increased the sensitivity enough so that the Ramseys
could work each other by bouncing signals off of distant walls and
trees, something the stock Ramsey's wouldn't even start to do. So, we
know there was a large sensitivity increase.
XE2AT went on to use his modified Ramsey's to work some serious
DX....not sure of the actual distances worked, but I think it was in
the 10's of miles range.
I did send the mod to Ramsey along with contact info for XE2AT so
they could confirm the enhancement worked from him directly.
Never heard anything back from Ramsey, and several messages to XE2AT
went unanswered, so I'm not sure whether the mod had problems or
whether it continued to work ok.
Regards,
Art
PS:Please don't post the attachment to the group. While a few might
appreciate having it, it is just QRM to the vast majority of us.
