The instruction book says one quarter mile. I presume that is with no
additional optics. I have never tried that far with mine. Others report several
Km ( or was it miles?) with some lenses.
I mounted mine in 2 inch schedule 40 PVC plastic pipe. I also modified the
power switch to pull on rather than push on. I have since stoped using
internal batteries so I no longer worry about accidentally turning them on and
running the battery down.
I do not like the way the laser pointer is mounted, and recommend the
receiver photo transistor be mounted separately from the PC board and run coax or
shielded wire.
I also found that the units do not like for you to talk within one inch of
the electret microphone. In a gymnasium, the increaed gain of the automatic
level control will pick up an amazing amount of sound.
I love mine.

Now those kits look pretty neat! I'm sure there are some on this reflector
that have these. What kind of range can I expect? Any, hints or tips
before I jump in with both feet?
