[Laser] first time, simple system, but problem

Adding the series cap and resistor from the LM386 output to ground
is critical for stability or it will definitely oscillate. For
alignment ( I assume we're talking optical) you certainly need some
form of at least a sighting tube to look through or preferably a
cheap rifle scope to mount on each unit. To align the scope or tube
we build a simple fixture which has a round bicycle reflector with an
LED mounted in the middle. The LED is driven by a 555 timer set for
some audio frequency maybe 1 KHz depending on the response of your
system. The receiver is peaked on the tone from the LED and the tube
or scope aligned to see the LED ( this needs to be done at some
distance to reduce the parallax). To align the transmitter to the
tube or scope, point the transmitter until you see it in the
reflector and then adjust your tube or scope to see the reflector.
