Hello Andy,

http://www.ledsupply.com

in Vermont sells the 1W LUXEON STAR LEDs in red 10$ ea

Yesterday I ordered 2 each with a modulateable driver, and collimating
lens assembly.

1W takes about 350 milliampers, so thermal management is a must.

Do a search on LUXEON for a wealth of info.

LUXEON also makes flash LEDS vs the torch type.

Imagine the pulsed power capabilities with pulse width modulation.

My actual order consisted of: (all in stock)

LUXEON STAR model LXHL-MD1D red 1W Lambertian @10$ ea
Acrylic collimating lens LXHL-NX05 3$
driver module 03021 w/ modulation (dimmer) input 20$
A wire harness and a dimming pot for the driver.
A shroud for the lens. 0.75$

Most of the power LEDs are used for basic architectural lighting.

LED Supply is at 1-802-728-6031 in Vermont.

The fresnel lenses from 3dlens in Taiwan are also interesting but will
be slightly more difficult to get.
They handle PayPal. No US distributors yet.

Lots of lens choices. Their model A395b at 395mm x 395mm and a focal
length of 220 mm
looks good at $28.60, rigid acrylic.
