[Laser] Nearing my wits end...

I would imagine this should be easy to find as it is 35+ year old technology
used in watches, calculators, junky kids toys...
However a day long search has resulted in nothing, thought I'd ask here...
I am looking for the old miniature seven segment displays. Round, only a
fraction of an inch high. What I need is a display in a roung package no
more than 5/16" across. Something in a package such as a passive IR sensor
package with the display viewable through the window would be the best, but
something in a modern T13/4 package or anything else will work.... I used
to see them everywhere in the seventies, tossed a lot of them, some were
nice open topped transistor looking things with eight pins on the base and a
clear lens on top to view the charaters. Usually there was a magnifying
lens because the charater was so small.
Ring any bells? Any ideas?
I found an example of what I'm looking for here:

This link is even better:
http://www.play-hookey.com/digital/experiments/seven_seg_led.html
If you scroll down just a little bit there is an example of a three
character unit, I'm looking for something like this but single character.
Any help in finding this would be greatly appreciated!!!
Kurt
