[Laser] X-Y translator

Art,
I'm not planning on putting to the transmitter on a tripod. It's fairly
clear that it won't work. I was thinking about using an piece of steel
rack-mount stock and putting some rubber feet on the bottom so that I
could set it on something solid, like the car (as long as the wind isn't
blowing). The trick here is to get linear X-Y to to some sort of az/el.
Any ideas?
