[Laser] Field Day 2004

You can modulate laser diodes up into the GHZ region, but the PGP
front-end will have BW limited depending upon how the PD is
biased--"daytime version" should have a larger BW. I know the W6's
have been using 2m FM handhelds as the subcarrier--that would be very
cool if you could hook that up at FD-hams could hook up their own "IF"
and talk. I think G0MRF said he had managed to put baseband audio, LF,
and HF all on the same diode and demodulated at the other end. Baseband
video is another interesting possibility for Field Day.
FWIW, I brought my ramsey kits to the W2RDX FD site last summer, and it
was a big hit with everyone, including the born and raised HFers. I
might suggest that you set it up and pre-align everything. If you have
along of realestate, try to get them out of ear-shot range. I just
finished "hot rodding" my ramsey kits so that the RX and laser are
separate from the main board. It seems silly to me to put all the
switches with the laser since you can adjust anything without knocking
it off of alignment!
