Hello Al--good to see you here...
I also have a pair of the ramsey kits. From what I can see, the ramsey
receiver uses a phototransistor for detection. You might consider
replacing this with a quality PIN photodiode to obtain better
weak-signal sensitivity...Has anyone tried this? The kits use
pulse-width modulation of a 16 KHz carrier, and this may not be the best
thing for extrememly weak signals either.
You will definately need lenses to work over any long distances. Bigger
lenses focus more light onto the detector. I'm sure you can get several
miles out of these ramsey kits with a good set of lenses, especially at
night.
