And another way is to work with uStepper motors..
I used  a pair of compumotor surplus motors...
mount mirrors on each one for X one for Y...
You can control them to about 1/4 of the beamwidth... not bad.
You can also run them thru wormgear radial translators (wow that's a term) and
get 10x or more resolution.
