[Laser] Laser Range Finder

Hello.  I am making a laser range finder for senior design.  A phase 
comparator will determine the phase difference between the reference signal 
and received signal, which will give a time difference.  That time 
difference can give us the distance away of the object.  My question is do 
you have any info, specific transmitter/receiver schematics which would aid 
me?  I need some good references for the project could you help out?
