Orlando - The information on our laser communicator setup is pretty much
covered on the website http://www.qsl.net/wb9ajz/laser/laser.htm
There is an article on that site (A Safe LED Optical Transceiver System )
written by Chuck a couple of years ago covering the LED version of the
unit which is easily good for over two miles. The LED approach is a good
way to get started as the beam width is wide enough that you can have fun
with basic camera tripods for pointing . Moving to the laser system
requires precision aiming capability which includes a very stable tripod,
good rifle scope, and micrometer adjustment. There are a number of
pictures of our current units under the section called Kerry's Optical
Communicator. The unit with the two sided-by-side PVC pipe tubes are the
ones we used this weekend. The large single tube with the concentric
laser/detector still needs to be completed.
