Litlle explanation, if you didn't realise yet ;)

Idea is to have needle just at focus point, or some else "beam cutter". If
using loudspeaker, you can easily set it to 50% light troughput by biasing
ls.
By focusing beam, only litlle movement is needed to obtain 100 % modulation,
so propably high frequency bandwidth might be possible. If using very light
(eg. litlle mass) needle, it should also improve bw.
