with temperature.

In feedback control, you can either take the output power by sensing it and
doing the current adjust or correct the power using temperature of the
diode. Excessive temperature may even kill the laser diode hence watch out
if you have spent $$$. Thermoelectric collers are generally used for laser
diode to regulate the temperature. In addition, power sensing is done.

In CD-writers you may find some clues if that is what one is looking for.
