This may already have been mentioned by someone else but it's news to me.
One of our San Diego Hams also playing with Laser communications showed me
a neat toy photo spectrometer this weekend & I found it to still be
available on the web.
The following site has nice photos of the display & info on the construction.

The following site is where it can be ordered. The cost is $24.95 plus
shipping.

I've borrowed the unit & have been able to readily sort out and match terh
wavelengths of my various filters and laser diodes. I just placed an
order for one of my own. The range is about 400-700 nm so is only useful
for those of us playing in the visible spectrum.
