[Laser] Total newbie question

Does anyone know anything about laser bounce listening devices? I thought it 
may be an interesting project to undertake. Also someone spoke of a simple 
modulated laser pointer with reciever for communication under a mile... Does 
anyone have circuit diagrams for a simple reciever module?
