[Laser] Newbie Question

Hello all,

I am very new to the laser mode of communications. I have been to the web
sites of WB9AJZ, K3PGP and a few others. All were interesting reading. Have
there been advancements in this area, or is this it? I enjoy contesting and
want to add this band "light" to my addition. I will need to go at least a
mile, during the day, under rushed conditions. Not to much time to set up as
I rover from grid to grid.
