Received this from the Greater New Orleans Science Fair list-server.
Can any hams help this student? Please get in touch with with Ms.
Boucvalt directly.

----------------------------------

I have a senior physics student who wants to test if solar flares
cause interference in AM radio transmission for his science fair
project. He found the idea on Internet and has done lots of research
BUT he is in need of a piece of equipment.

He needs (we think this is what he needs) is a Ham radio station
monitor scope to measure the audibility in AM radio stations (he will
select 5 AM stations, maybe more) to determine if they become weaker
(compared to usual conditions of no solar activity) for time periods
with solar activity.

Solar flares cause an increased level of ionization and electron
density in the D-layer of the ionosphere which results in increased
radio-wave absorption. This elevation in the absorption level of
radio-wave signals cause disruptions in the ionosphere, which should
cause the AM radio station signals to become weaker.

Can anyone help me locate one of these devices to "borrow" for at
least 4 weeks? Also, can anyone mentor him or assist him with this
project?

Thank you.
