Dear OM:
The first page of a google search came up with this website.
http://www.televideo.ws/9R-59D.html
It seems to have some of the info you need, including schematic for what to do
ith the other half of the LO (i.e., connection to a freq counter).
Ah, the memories of youth that these photos inspire!
Have fun es 73,

ubject: [Lafayette] Trio 9R-59D /DS trivia
i, I recently purchased and refurbed a Trio 9R-59D. I am very, very impressed
ith the performance of this 6 tube radio. Is there anyone that might have an
dea where a person might find a Service Manual?? I have the Operating Manual,
t's on BAMA.
For those interested, here's some 'strange things' about the radio and the
anual:
1. There is NO alignment info in the Op Manual. My radio still has all the
ntact white paint that Trio/Lafayette used on their radios.
t plays so well, I am not going to touch it (unusual for me!!!) ha ha
2. The radio has a wired tube socket for an 0A2 regulator tube which was an
ption!
. Next to the 0A2 socket, are a couple of holes in the chassis, to add a
alibrator crystal socket. The Op Manual gives a schematic for constructing your
own solid state calibrator.
4. A section in the Manual gives very specific directions on how to "cut off a
attern path" on one of the circuit boards using a razor blade. For what, I have
NO idea....
5. The Manual also states "since 1/2 of the 6AQ8 in the local oscillator circuit
has been left unused, it may be interesting to use it as a cathode follower to
eed the mixer". Again, HUH???
6. The Manual gives hints on how to check both the audio and IF stages. Good
nfo on dial cord re-stringing, but not a word about alignment..
7. The 'theory' section speaks about the use of Mechanical (Piezo-Transducer)
ilters in the radio. All I could find were some small, IF transformers with
lugs. There are also the conventional, larger IF cans in the IF chain.
My radio worked but self oscillated. ALL the paper caps were NG, the
lectrolytic's had changed value 100% +, and one tube leaked.
I would like to find: (and willing to pay for)
A. a Service Manual
. a photo or scan of the label on the bottom cover that shows the location of
he RF, OSC, and ANT coils and caps. I only have 1/2 of it.. ha ha
Thanks for the time.
