Bob,
I don't know about its suitability for CW use, but the HE-10 is a FINE
shortwave AM broadcast listening receiver. At 12, my Dad helped me get a
Knightkit Span Master, that got me interested in shortwave listening, and I
drooled over the Lafayette catalogs while saving my money to buy a brand new
HE-10 at age 14. I wish I had kept it, but did find a very nice example of
it a few years back in MINT condition. It awaits my replacing the
electrolytics and it will once again be used on the air. I also have a kit
version, the KT200, but as Pete said some would be, it lacks some in the
wiring department, hi. I may "strip it down" some, and have the pleasure of
building a Lafayette kit, hi. Pete, would you happen to have a KT-200
manual I could buy a copy of?? That would be a fun winter project. I got
bitten several years ago Bob and also have the HA-225, HE-80, HA-63A
Lafayettes, Trio 9R59D, National NC-125, 3 Span Masters (hope to make one or
two decent ones out of the three) and a Drake SW-4A. Watch Ebay, it's habit
forming on the receivers, hi. Whichever you choose, enjoy the fine old
rigs. They still bring a LOT of pleasure that just isn't in tuning the
Orion II on the shortwave bands!!
73,
Don, WB5HAK (Ex WPE5CTN, if you guys remember those calls!!)
