The 33rd annual Cave City Hamfest sponsored by the Mammoth Cave

Amateur Radio Club of Glasgow, KY is almost upon us. Doors open to

the public at 07:30am Central Time. Admission is $6. Tables are $8, but

tables are virtually sold out at this writing. Less than 10 are available,

those in the lobby area (not the main floor). An ARRL forum and a

3960 Group forum are scheduled for Saturday morning. Concessions

are available, provided by Cave City Convention Center as they do not

allow any other food/snack vendors. Lots of restaurants and lodging

facilities lie nearby as Cave City is a tourist town, but March is off-season

making for plenty of space and no long lines.

Vendor set-up begins Friday evening 6 - 9 Central Time, also at 6 am

on Saturday morning. For more hamfest info please contact Larry

Brumett, KN4IV at lbrumett at glasgow-ky.com

Talk-in for the Cave City Hamfest is via 146.940 (-600 no tones)

repeater located in nearby Glasgow, KY. There is a nightly net

on this 146.940 repeater, so please check-in at 8pm Central if you

arrive on Friday or stay late on Saturday. Our club also sponsors

a 444.975 repeater located at Glasgow which has full-time Echolink.

Feel free to use it to call back to friends. It is listed as KY4X-R on

Echolink.

ARRL V.E. Testing begins at 9am Central Time on Saturday. Please

bring a copy of your current license (if any) and a photo ID.

As we have done for many years we will also have V.E. Testing on

Thursday, March 5th in Glasgow at the MCARC Clubroom (basement

of Glasgow City Hall). This takes some pressure off the hamfest

testing. For more info on V.E. testing please email Chappy Rice,

KD4SS at kd4ss at arrl.net

Tailgating is free, but it is outside, in front of the Convention Center.

You take your chance on weather out there. There are 20 spaces

only. You cannot hear the paging system.

At the fest you will find almost anything and everything. From

antique radios to brand new ham rigs. Lots of computers and

software always show up. Buy, sell or trade. Flea market items.

Yes I'm betting that several CB rigs can also be found. Newer hams

may want to know that some hams convert these to 10 meters....

We never know, for sure, what will be for sale at our hamfest so

please visit and see for yourself. We promise you a large fest and

a friendly good time.

                                                   Joe, N4NAS
