The new Director of Emergency Management, BG John Heltzel is a major
supporter of Amateur Radio and is very enthusiastic about your participation
in providing emergency communications for your local jurisdiction and the
State Emergency Operations Center. We have just recently replaced the old
floor in the communications room and have begun the process of re-installing
our amateur radio equipment. As of today we only have the FEMA FNARS HF
radio installed but are hopeful that we will have a basic "shack" in
operation to support the Boy Scouts 51st Jamboree on the Air scheduled for
Saturday October 18, 2008. The EM Mobile Command Vehicle continues to
provide our mobile HAM radio operations and is a major backup to the EOC.
The following is a list of activities/exercises that will provide
opportunities for emergency communications:
1. EM Command Vehicle will participate in a Coal Mine Rescue Competition
near Madisonville October 8-10 (Very Short Notice)
2. The EOC and EM Command Vehicle will support the 51st Boy Scout
Jamboree on the Air on October 18.
3. KYEM Area 2 will be conducting a major exercise out of the
Hopkinsville Armory on 21 October.
3. The EOC and EM Command Vehicle will be activated as part of the CSEPP
Exercise on October 29.
4. The EM Command Vehicle will participate in a National Guard
Communications Exercise on November 14 and 15.
