Don't you dare unsubscribe. My list of people to watch is going down fast.
(:^}
Seriously, I was watching the news today and Tony Snow was conducting a
White House press conference. They were talking about the seven terrorists
in Fl. arrested yesterday or whenever. At least he was trying to talk about
that. The medias questions kept going back to how the info was gotten on
them and was anyone's rights violated. The media is full of s***!!!!!! The
New York Times has a front page article on it and all it talks about is the
methods used to gather the info. The actual arrests are buried in the back
of the paper. What planet are these idiots from?????????????
I personally don't have a damn thing to hide. Hope that gets me off
everyone's list!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I can't resist but the confusion, half truths, and over reaction over
this stuff is beyond comical.....

Like they haven't been doing this for years? Ever hear of Carnivore? Ever
hear of Echelon? Been going on for decades, ramped up in the 90's when
international and domestic terrorism ramped up. There's nothing new here
except the knee jerk emotionalism and making of mole hills into mountains.
There's probably more legal hoops for the government to jump thru to get
your information today than there was in the 80s/90s.

News flash, those folks at NSA and the CIA are a bunch of spies, who would
of imagined such hidious things? ;-)

If Uncle Sam wants to know what and to whom you're talking to, guess what
they are going to find out. If they don't want a paper trail, then you'll
never know it. Nothing new here, been going on for decades.

It's really simple. When you talk on a cell phone we all know someone out
there could be monitoring your call, legal or not. The advent of digital
phones ran off the typical snoop with a analog scanner. Now folks with
digital receiving equipment and a modest laptop can monitor calls (even
specifically target and record specific numbers (MINs)) without even being
present). An expensive digital receiver often isn't even needed, just the
right model of phone and a programming cable. Back in the 90's for years
the cell phone companies swore up and down the calls were private even after
everyone with half a clue knew different.

The fact that a phone company might be monitoring calls or helping the
government do so...wow that's a newsflash. Might help to remember that your
calls are going over THEIR equipment once it leaves your home.

If you're that concerned about your web/email/phone privacy, then the
solution is pretty simple, the great equalizer called ENCRYPTION.

Internet Service Providers (including AT&T) have the legal right to monitor
traffic on THEIR networks as they see fit. Read the terms of service and
relevant legal case law. Now granted they can't just go doing anything they
want with this data, the provisions are there for them to adequately control
and maintain their networks (including detecting abuse of THEIR networks).
If you work for a large corporation with an IT and HR department that has
half a clue, then you probably signed something at the time of employment
regarding how you would and would not use the computers systems and
networks, often you will formally agree to the fact that all your
communications may be monitored.

When you surf the web, most of the time your sessions are unencrypted, there
are hundreds of places where someone could be monitoring these "in the
clear" packets (for legit reasons or not so legit) as they traverse the
(often their network gear) various networks of the internet. Unless you use
SSL (https) you honestly can't expect privacy or else you're only kidding
yourself.

Email (normally) is an unsecure plain text means of communicating. Many
folks besides the government could be reading your emails at many points
between you and intended recipient. Email, like web surfing, has never and
never will be totally private unless you go the extra step and ENCRYPT the
messages.

Yes, with enough computing power and time most any encryption scheme you can
use can be broken. Yes, since the bulk of email going across the networks
is not encrypted so using encryption may actually catch the eye of those
watching traffic (hey why is this guy using encrypted emails). Pro's and
cons both ways.

I've yet to hear anyone specifically named in a specific incident where this
stuff impacted them negatively beyond setting around all worried about
privacy issues when privacy was never there to begin with.

There is nothing new or recent here, been going on for decades. I seriously
doubt there is some poor guy setting in NSA or even the phone companies
specifically monitoring my email, my websurfing, or my phone calls. Even if
true, I'd feel sorry for the poor bastard reading and listening to my boring
life...what a crappy job. I don't, and never have, expected any of the
above to be completely private and secure.

I'm sorry, but I find all these folks getting their underwear in a bind over
this stuff...well...completely hilarious. I have friend that lives in an
apartment complex, thinks nothing of caring on conversations via a typical
cheap cordless phone, but was agast that the phone company and government
could be listing to the very content he broadcasts over open airwaves all
the time.

For those that wish to get all upset over this silliness, may I suggest
investing in copious amounts of aluminum foil for hats!

Frankly I'm more worried about the criminal element that could be
intercepting my communications (online banking for example) than some poor
sap in the government monitoring my most boring life, grin.

I have a friend with a great tag line on his emails:

"Recently many in the medical community have expressed concern over the
increase in depression cases over the last decade. I have a simple
solution. Turn off the news, put down the newspaper, and go live your
life."

Sorry guys, couldn't resist ;-) Looks like I need to unsubcribe from the
KYHAM mailing list.

As of today June 23rd 2006, Any one sending info via AT&T
is open to the world. THEY OWN every piece of info ABOUT YOU &
what you send, and/Or receive!

The Government is HOT and AT&T has a law
suite against them this morning! They are watching your uploads
and downloads, reading your e-mails and looking at ALL your
personal info, scanning your phones and PC's. .

WARNING!!!!! Sprint and Verizon said... they will follow what
AT&T does. This covers ANY connections ...Internet, Blackberry,
Telephone, ANY AND ALL wireless devices they operate and or
connect with! I saw this for myself
last night on the Nightly Business report. They also opened all
files on everyone to the NSA. Washington is MAD!!!!!!!!!
