----------------------------------------------------
Area 2
DEC, KG4URI reports that several members of their ARES group are
registering with KyEM for a possible order for deployment to assist the
MS or LA communities affected by Katrina.
----------------------------------------------------
Area 3
As the month was coming to a close, DEC W4RCX was working with the
Daviess County EMA and Ohio County EMA offices to help establish a link
by satellite radio out of some of the areas affected by Hurricane
Katrina that are without other means of communications. At least two
mobile SatRad units were enroute from Kentucky to the affected area, and
once those units are set up (hopefully by Saturday, September 3), ARES
and EMA personnel in Ohio County, Daviess County, and Henderson County
using SatRad equipment in their respective counties will begin handling
Health & Welfare traffic out of Louisiana and Mississippi and relaying
those messages to family members throughout the U.S. via Amateur Radio,
telephone, and e-mail. For as long as necessary, a daily schedule will
be maintained by the three counties previously mentioned working in
shifts at regular intervals to handle this traffic. A full report on the
effectiveness of this endeavor will be posted next month.
-----------------------------------------------------
Stu, WX4ME reports that 10 members of the Bullitt Amateur Radio Society
provided communications for The Lori Lenfert Tilton Memorial Bike Ride
on August 6, in southern Indiana. Stu reported that 649 riders took part
to benefit cancer research. In so doing, the group helped raise
$35,000.00 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and other local cancer
charities.
---------------------------------------------------
Area 7 was again very active in Public Service this month!
Area 7 conducted their S.E.T. on August 4th in association with a
multi-jurisdictional exercise concerning an incident involving chemical,
biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosives (CBRNE)
weapons for the region and southern Ohio and three counties in SE
Indiana. NB4K reports amateur radio was well represented as it was
attended by 25 Amateurs and provided communications to served agencies
and had over 700 messages passed during the exercise run!
The group also remained ready during the approach of Tropical Storm
Katrina and stood ready to assist in traffic from the disaster areas
down south.
----------------------------------------------------
Area 9
Lawrence Co EC WA4SWF reports: Our nets were dealing with traffic put on
the SATERN net through the end of the month.
New website by Fred Jones www.bigsandyfred.com will have info for ARES
and matters dealing with the ARRL.
DEC KB4SQI is working to convene a meeting for all ARES members to
review the Area 9 organization and planning area wide.
----------------------------------------------------
District 13
Fayette Co ARES and Bluegrass Amateur Radio Society assisted with
communications for the Bluegrass 10,000. This is an annual foot race
event with over 4,000 participants. The eighteen amateurs who
participated racked up 90 man hours in the effort.

SECTION NOTES:
Number of reports received are down this month. Likely more went on
than we have received info for.
Due to past winter time interference issues, KEN - MAY BE changing times
or frequencies of operation for its regular sessions. More on this next
month after it is discussed in the EMCOMM Forum at the Greater
Louisville Hamfest on Sept. 10th.
My Digital Modes - Assistant SEC, K4SET is working with KyEM and Area 14
DEC, KF4FMZ to have WinLink 2000 as an active part of the state's new
$600,000 Command Post and in the state EOC.
The annual state conference for all EMA Directors, E-911's and Public
Safety Dispatchers is coming up Sept. 6-8 in Owensboro. The Ky SEC will
be attending. With Katrina response and communications issues so
prominent, it should be very interesting! More on this next month.
