Though our storm season was not as active in the number of responses in
2005, those we did have more than made up for it. Add in addition to our
own troubles, Katrina, Rita, Wilma and all the other situations from
this past year and it will certainly be a memorable one for everyone.
Come what may, the amateurs of the Kentucky Section have done themselves
proud this year in terms of service to their fellow man. Seeing the
effects that all of the hurricanes and tornadoes etc. have had on so
many makes those of us with homes still standing and our families
intact, very mindful of our good fortune no matter what other problems
we may have been facing since the new year.
As a county EMA Director I have seen many changes come and expect more
to follow in the months ahead. Disaster response is changing and we must
be ready to adapt to any needed changes on our parts in order to remain
viable. As the SEC, I continue to watch the progress we make in
emergency communications preparedness. This continues to be a team
effort and there are so many to say thank you's to, I am sure I'd forget
someone inadvertently so I won't mention names. Just know that you are
appreciated and many outside our hobby recognize the efforts you make
for the people of this Commonwealth. No one knows what we will face in
the days and months ahead in 2006. Whatever it may be, I hope we can
continue to face them together.
To my ARES leadership at section, area and local levels, my sincere
thanks. To all of those in the field who serve as Net Controls, team
members or in what ever capacity, we could not make it without you.
Again, my thanks.
As we enter this holiday season, let's all remember those who have lost
or have been lost in the disasters of 2005. Let us then re-dedicate
ourselves to the task of preparing for future disasters and making Ky
ARES the best that it can be.
73 and Happy Thanksgiving
