I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions. Unfortunately, antenna
discussions usually
generate more heat than light. Very seldomly is there the one perfect
antenna.
All antennas are compromises based on an individual's particular
requirements.
The G5RV works, although perhaps not as well as a full sized dipole. Then,
again, a lot of people perfer vertically polarized antennas since they
are easier
to configure so as to achieve a low angle of radiation, and since
they're closer
to omnidirectional. Then, again, some people perfer loops, especially since
these may tend to reject noise a bit better than dipole type antennas.
Other
people perfer the increased directionality and signal strength from a
beam type
antenna.
