GLHA Looking to 2005 - Our First Meeting
The Greater Louisville Hamfest Association (GLHA) met for their first
meeting of the year on Monday, March 14. In the planning stages of the 2005
Louisville Hamfest, the group discussed improvements for this year's show on
Saturday, September 10 at Paroquet Springs.

On the top of the agenda was security for the inside vendors. During setup,
a few non-flea market individuals found their way into the indoor area
before opening. Commercial vendors are a bit on edge when they cannot watch
their merchandise. The time before the opening of the hamfest is for their
setup and we want them to feel comfortable while taking the time to add to
our hamfest. GLHA has a plan to provide that additional blanket this year.

There were quite a few vendors who preferred to setup on Friday night. The
additional expense of renting the hall prevented it last year. That expense
is still there, but GLHA is looking into dishing out the additional $500
rental for the night before the hamfest to help accommodate commercial and
indoor flea market vendors.

Although Paroquet Springs said they had more than enough free tables for
last year's show, they only had 60. The unexpected and unbudgeted rental of
112 more tables was an unexpected expense. Knowing this for the 2005 show,
the GLHA is actively looking for the best-priced source for table rentals.

Due to the rental costs of additional tables and Friday evening, it is
suspected cost of the indoor flea market tables will have to be raised. It
was estimated the cost per indoor flea market space should not exceed $7.
However, nothing will be set in stone until the rental fees are checked.

Two things are definite for this year's Louisville Hamfest. Firstly, the
price of admission to the show will remain at $5 in advance, $6 at the door
and free admission for children under 12. Secondly, there will be no banquet
this year. Last year's banquet was great, but putting it on is not an easy
task. The banquet was at cost and GLHA broke even on it, as planned. There
has been discussion for a get-together at one of the local restaurants
Friday evening. Each person will be responsible for his/her own check.

If you want to help with this year's hamfest, the GLHA invites you to the
group. We are always looking for people who can volunteer their talents. If
you're interested in helping, contact Stu Kratz (WX4ME) by email at
stu_kratz at yahoo.com. The next meeting will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 11
at the downtown Louisville Red Cross Building, 510 E. Chestnut Street.
