Propane has a number of advantages including the
reliabilty of the fuel.   I have bought over 100
telecommunications sites with propane gensets,
and all but one fired first time after years of 
no use.  The one that did not fire up had a problem
with the engine controller.

Out of the 30 or so diesel sites, over 2 years 
inactive, almost all required some level of work,
or repeated attempts, to get them to fire up.
