[KYHAM] SkyWarn Photos Needed

I now have some excellent shots of the WX4NWS station at the Louisville
NWS. I would like to receive some from the other NWSFO's who have
Kentucky in their coverage areas. The PPT program is developing nicely,
but would like for it to be as complete as possible in representing more
than just the Louisville coverage area.

As mentioned before, If there is a story or two out there in which
amateur radio was instrumental in saving lives in a spotter situation,
I'd love to have the details to include in the show. One example I
already included was from April 22 of 2002 when a local (Area 5) family
of non-hams was monitoring the Wide Area Repeaters Net (WARN) SkyWarn
net on their scanner at 4:20 AM and heard the report of a tornado
touchdown not far from their home AS IT WAS BEING REPORTED to the NWS
station on Louisville. This allowed them to take cover just seconds
before their home was destroyed! I am sure there are similar tales out
there somewhere or maybe a tornado was spotted that the radar either
missed or could not confirm by itself? We all know how important
trained eyes in the field are. Now help me pass this on to others.

Photos of amateurs with their storm spotting communications set up
whether it is a simple HT or a more elaborate mobile or NCS set up are
also welcome. I'd like to make this as well rounded as possible from
the different areas of the state. Success stories and photos definitely
welcome!

Thanks for those who already replied and looking forward to more to
come.

I am at present working on a power point program illustrating how the
National Weather Service makes use of amateur radio in SkyWarn spotting
operations in the state.

While I realize that we usually have a heck of a lot more to do in
severe weather events than shoot photos, if anyone has anything that
might be useful that you are willing to allow used in this program,
please send them along.

These can be from the field or from the NWSFO amateur stations in
Kentucky and our adjoining neighbor states who co-operate with us in
saving lives. I will also be glad to make this available to those who
wish it after its completion. If anyone has other useful input, it is
also welcome!
