... Is expected to make landfall tomorrow some time.  This is a huge 
hurricane with tremendous damage potential and may even bring some heavy 
rainfall to the Bluegrass as it dissipates.  I am sure, as with Charley, 
there will be all kinds of information and "aid" requests posted to a 
lot of listservs around the country.  Unless we receive an officialm 
Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request for amateur radio 
support to an affected area, I would advise against taking a "jump and 
run' mentality to any such listserv or forum requests.  There is a chain 
of command structure out there to deal with all manner of incidents.  
Walk-ins without proper chain of command instructions and authorization 
may find themselves becoming more of a part of the problem instead of 
being a help. 

If any legitimate calls for aid come in through proper channels, you 
well be advised.  I plan to monitor the situation closely and will keep 
all of you in the loop.
