The first Monday of each month, we ask that amateurs on the net
bring forth any interesting books, magazine articles or web sites
that may be useful to other amateurs. The following infomation
was offered up during the May 3, 2004 KEN Session.
SM Meyers submitted an article to all club newsletter editors for
possible use in club newsletters regarding Community Emergency
Response Teams (CERTs). Check it out.
District 7 has a new web site up and running at http://ky7et.org
The Winlink 2000 Amateur Radio digital network has been in
continuous operation for over 5 years, Worldwide. It is by far
the largest email over radio network in the World, Amateur or
commercial. It currently pushes over 150,000 radio SMTP mail
(email) messages or over 290,000 minutes through its system
monthly to over 5,100 Amateur Radio users and their 68,000 email
recipients. This is much more than all NTS, NTS/D and MARS
traffic transfer combined. It does this over Radio via VHF/UHF
AX.25 Packet or on HF using the Pactor modes. Many amateurs (your
SEC included) are still learning about the faculties of WINLINK
2000. It is anticpated that in the future amateurs may be making
use of WINLINK 2000 for disaster messaging. To learn more about
this new kid on the block visit: http://winlink.org/
We all like the idea of emergency back up power for our VHF and
UHF repeaters. Check out what this group has done in No.
