Hi Tyler,

Looking at your diagram, I think much of your problem is operating similar
batteries in parallel.  Batteries are not identical even with careful
manufacturing techniques will not stay in balance.  If operated in parallel
you can expect exactly what happened.

If you are operating with solar charging, you must make a provision for the
excess power that may be produced at low temperatures due to an increase in
solar panel efficiency.  Solar panels designed to output 3 amperes can
produce 4 or even 5 if there is sunlight reflecting onto snow on the roof.
I recall that a need to deal with this extra current is a part of the NEC
requirements.  .

The best dependability and economy in the end is the C & D series of 2 volt
flooded cells using six to make up your battery.  With reasonable care, they
will last 20 to 30 years.  Choose led calcium construction and also be sure
to specify the combined fill funnel and flash arrestors.  If I can be at all
