Louisville Hamfest Announces Events

The events for The 2004 Greater Louisville Hamfest have been announced on
their web site. Along with outdoor tailgating, air-conditioned indoor flea
marketers and commercial vendors and door prizes, special events are in
store.
This year, the Red Cross Emergency Communications Response Vehicle
(E.C.R.V.) will be displayed, coutesy of the Louisville Chapter of The
American Red Cross. Mike Crenshaw, KF4BAP, will be there to demonstrate the
vehicle's capabilities and answer your questions. This is a technological
communications wonder - and there are only 8 vehicles like this throughout
the entire country. More information on the vehicle can be found at
www.qsl.net/kf4bap.

Gerald Lynn, KD4QCH, an ASC Power Para Wing Flight Instructor from
Brandenburg, will be displaying and demonstrating his Powered Parachute.

Also this year, Don Marquardt, K9SOA, will be on the air live demonstrating
EchoLink and APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System). APRS was developed
by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, for tracking and digital communications with mobile
GPS equipped stations with two-way radio. In the 12 years since its
introduction, it has grown to encompass just about every aspect of Amateur
Radio.

But that's not all. Forums for AARL, ARES and the Kentucky Traffic Net (The
3960 Group) are scheduled. Prospective and upgrading amateurs may take their
FCC Exams and there will be a free BINGO for the ladies. Concessions will be
provided by Paroquet Springs. The Main Prizes have not been announced yet.

The Louisville Hamfest will be on Saturday, September 11 at their new
location, the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre. Tickets are $5 in advance,
$6 day of show. On Friday evening, September 10, the Louisville Hamfest will
have a banquet. Pre-registration is required and the cost is only $20 per
person, which includes all taxes and tips.

For all the information on activities, maps to the show and discounts on
accomodations, log onto the Greater Louisville Hamfest web site at
