It appears that the ice storm continues to develop and move
toward Ky. The more northern reaches of the Commonwealth look to
likely receive more snow than ice and a winter storm warning is
in effect there. Central portions of the state are under an ice
storm warning through Sunday afternoon. Total snow and ice
accumulations will be one-half to one inch by Sunday afternoon.
Travel could become nearly impossible due to the expected snow
and ice accumulation. Also, this amount of ice could down power
lines and tree limbs. Monitor the media and NOAA radio for updates.

Should your ARES team be activatated by local EMA's, they should
be able to tell if road conditions are satisfactory for an
immediate response or if a short delay is required.

In other cases, use extreme caution and judge roadway conditions
before committing and consider if conditions may need to be
allowed a short period to improve before continuing with travel
plans if it is considered to dangerous at the time. (Ky Traffic
and Travel info in-state: dial 511 or out of state: 1 866-737-3767).

As important as a response or a trip somewhere may be, having an
accident occur injuring or killing a team member is not an
acceptable trade-off. As the temps increase and precip changes to
rain, conditions on roadways will improve. There is no textbook
answer for situations such as this. USE GOOD JUDGMENT and let's
be careful out there if we have to go!
